DUE TO THE WEATHER, WORSHIP WILL BE AT CHURCH – NOT AT CITY PARK – AUG 27

There will be one service at 10:15 a.m. with a pot-luck meal after in the Fellowship Hall.

There may still be some snow in the forecasts, but summer is almost here!! The youth are already talking about Summer camp and spots will be filling up soon. Don’t wait to get registered. You can use this form or go to www.llbc.org to register online. Let the church office know if you are planning to attend so we can include you in our fundraising events to help offset some of the costs.

Mid-week Worship is at 6:30 p.m. every Wednesday in the sanctuary with the confirmation youth leading.

The Deacons are hosting pot-luck meals at 5:30 p.m on Ash Wednesday and Maundy Thursday. There will also be Holy Communion open to all Christians at these two services, and then on Easter Morning.

Holy Trinity is hosting the annual Ecumenical Good Friday service at noon, with youth leading us through the stations of the cross.

Daily devotionals, “Seeing Jesus,” are available. This year’s devotionals take a look at who Jesus is through the various eyes of many people around Jesus. As we read what their first-hand accounts might have been, we will see Jesus with new eyes – with the eyes of our hearts, as the Apostle Paul put it.

The front of our sanctuary has some special decorations during Lent. The colored ribbons woven together are from Synod School 2016 worship – the theme was “Connecting to Jesus in an Over-connected World”. They are strips of cloth, knotted together, surrounding the cross, representing our lives and the power of the Holy Spirit in a variety of ways. The Baptismal Font, surrounded by green plants, reminds us that our only true oasis in a dark and sinful world is the Living Water, Jesus Christ.

May we each make small sacrifices in our daily lives this Lent, intentionally disconnecting from whatever it is in this world that distracts us from Jesus, so that we can gather together in worship, connect to Jesus, and see Jesus through new eyes.

Our own Steve Jones is one of two finalists named for Don Shula NFL High School Coach of the Year!

Quoting from the Appleton Post Crescent:
Kimberly football coach Steve Jones has been named one of two finalists for the coveted Don Shula high school football Coach of the Year award presented by the NFL. Jones, in his sixth season as head coach at Kimberly, guided the Papermakers to their fourth WIAA consecutive state championship this past fall. Kimberly has won the last three state titles in Division 1 and also won the Division 2 title in 2013. Kimberly also has a 56-game win streak, the state record for most consecutive victories and also the longest current win streak in the nation. According to a press release by the NFL, Jones was nominated by the Green Bay Packers for his commitment to player health and safety and the integrity, achievement and leadership exemplified by the winningest coach in NFL history, Don Shula. According to the NFL, a blue ribbon panel including Shula, Peyton Manning and Michael Strahan reviewed the nominations and selected the two finalists, including Jones.

The Don Shula Award winner will be announced during the third quarter of the 2017 Pro Bowl, airing Sunday, Jan. 29 at 8 PM ET on ESPN.

Another great event!!! A huge THANKS to everyone who helped prepare the food, crafts and facility and to those who came to enjoy the meal. We sold over 300 meals!! Our apologies to those who came towards the end of the night and didn’t get to enjoy the full meal and to the few we had to turn away after the food was gone.

Susan J. Cross, 68, Oconto, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2016 at Bellin Hospital, Green Bay. She was born June 13, 1948 in Hustisford, WI to the late Donald and Jean (Reinke) Williams. She attended Oconomowoc Schools graduating in 1966, Waukesha County Technical College, Fox Valley Technical College, and UW Waukesha. Susan married David H. Cross on December 13, 1985. He preceded her in death on March 15, 2014. Susan worked as a teacher’s aide for St. Norberts, Green Bay and Oconto FallsPublic Schools for many years. She was a very active member in the First Presbyterian Church, Oconto, where she served as a Deacon, the Oconto county Historical Society where she held the office of Treasurer, and Woman’s Club, Oconto American Legion Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society. Susan enjoyed working with the elderly and help served meals for those who were shut-in. She was always giving to others to help them when needed.

Susan is survived by a brother, Terry Williams, Campbellsport; a sister, Cheryl (Lloyd) Williams, Waukesha; nieces, Jodi and Shawn Smith, Milwaukee; Jenny and Sean Beres, Waukesha; Katie and Isaiah Hanback, Appleton; nephew, Nicholas Williams, CA; great nieces and nephews, Jaeden and Josiah Smith and Lloyd, Lillian and Lacy Beres and her beloved dog, Murphy; sister-in-law, Barbara Barrera; brother-in-law, Bruce Cross; nieces, Kandi Cross and Marsha Erickson; nephews, Lee J. Holtgrieve, Jason Cross, Danny Barrera and Kyle Cross. She was preceded in death by father and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Ruth Cross, brother-in-law, Scott Cross; sister-in-law, Diana Fleischman and nephew Chad Cross.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the First Presbyterian Church, 135 Jackson St., Oconto, from 9 to 11 AM Friday, August 12, 2016. Funeral services will be conducted 11 AM Friday at the church with the Rev. Craig Alwin officiating. Online condolences may be expressed at www.gallagherfuneralhome.net.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
