The Ponderings of Your Pastor – (Dec 08)
As Kris and I were preparing to move to Oconto, there were moments when we felt overwhelmed. Questions continually popped into our heads. Would we get everything packed in time? Would something get lost or broken in the move? Would we find a place to live? Would we be able to sell our house? Would the new congregation like us? How will the move impact the kids? The questions never seemed to stop. We could have let the uncertainty of these and many more questions weigh us down. However, we continued to remind each other of a verse God put before Kris one day, Deuteronomy 31:8. “It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” These are the words God gave to Joshua through Moses near the end of Moses’ life. Joshua was about to become the leader of the Israel as they entered the Promised Land. Each night we thanked God for going before us to Oconto.
The moving truck came, loaded every item in our house, and was ready to begin the eight-hour drive to Oconto. The next day, as we were driving here ourselves, Kris pointed ahead in the distance. Could that be what we thought is was? Yes, we were coming up behind our moving truck. What an odd feeling, to see a truck loaded with your entire home, driving down the road ahead of you. We were again reminded, “It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not fail you or forsake you.”
We have made it to Oconto WI. We are truly thankful for the warm welcome you have been extending to us. We enjoyed the Chicken Pie Supper. We have shared in the wonderful sesqui-centennial celebration worship with you. I have now been officially installed as your new pastor. I have received my charge, and you as a congregation have received your charge.
As we serve together in ministry, may we continually remind each other, “It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” I look forward to meeting all of you, hearing your stories, and together discerning the path God is preparing for us to journey along together. See you in worship!
